Flownex Partners with PADT Inc
Flownex Simulation Environment adds PADT Inc. to its list of distinguished international channel partners.
PADT’s offerings came out of a long time need that the company’s sales and technical staff was seeing when engaging with customers.
According to Eric Miller, Principal and Co-Owner of PADT:
“We kept running into customers who were happy with the detailed CFD tools we were providing them with, but were struggling with understanding the behavior of the system that their components worked in. They needed a way to understand the bigger picture. So our engineers started looking around and found Flownex was the best tool to fill this need. They also saw that it was a well-designed and written tool.”
After a technical and business evaluation, both parties agreed to work together and PADT would become a distributor of the tool in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California.
PADT is focused on providing world class mechanical engineering simulation, product development, and rapid prototyping services as well as sales and support of leading engineering software and hardware tools. The company makes innovation work for over one thousand customers around the world from its main offices at the ASU Research Park in Tempe, Arizona, their Littleton, Colorado office, and through staff members located around the country. Flownex 8.1 SP1 Released
The Flownex SE Service pack 1 is a collection of updates, fixes and/or enhancements to Flownex SE 8.1. The Service pack is focused on updates, fixes and/or enhancements to the user interface, manuals and features within Flownex SE as requested by clients.
Flownex SE 8.1 SP1 Boasts Enhanced Capabilities:
- Positive Suction Head (NPSH)
- NPSH charts and results were added to fan and variable speed pump as well as warnings when NPSH required < NPSH actual. NPSH is the available energy at the suction side of a pump. Pump manufactures run tests to determine the minimum value of NPSH before cavitation. The data curve for NPSH required can be defined in Flownex by specifying sets of points on the pump curve.
- Containers with irregular shapes
- Open containers, vented containers, two phase tanks and nodes now all have the ability for users to specify complex geometries for containers with irregular shapes.
- Insulated pipe component
- The Insulated Pipe element was developed to easily model heat transfer between a pipe or a insulated pipe and its surroundings. In essence the element is a pipe connected to the Heat Transfer element.
- Gradual contraction and expansion component
- The Gradual Pipe Transition element was developed for pipe diameter transitions and is based on the theory presented in crane.
- Gradual pipe transition component.
- Super critical two phase
- Flownex now has enhanced two phase capability in terms of super critical flow. Flownex accounts for pressures that exceed the critical region and issues warning if the user specifies a quality in this quality independent region. The friction factor of a pipe is also made available to allow manipulation for critical flow applications.
Flownex International UGM
The international Flownex User Group meeting will be held from the from 31st October 2011 to the 2nd of November 2011, This will be a valuable session offering you an opportunity to network with your peers, obtain Flownex training, hear first-hand from international partners, and share ideas, problems, and questions with your peers and Flownex staff.

Flownex 8.1 Released
Flownex SE 8.1 Boasts Enhanced Capabilities:
The Flownex SE 8.1 release contains enhancements to the user interface, manuals, features and components.
Some of the enhancements include
- GUI Enhancements
- Flownex boasts a new menu system. The Improved Flownex SE GUI is used to access and interpret all of the simulation functionality. The improved GUI speeds up access to menus, ribbons, property pages, material and component databases.
- The enhancements make all available features easily accessible and include a Quick launch bar, Tips and a Hidden mode.
- Drawing Enhancements
- The drawing mechanism improvements allow users to setup networks only using element components by means of automatically created nodes and links. This allows for; Faster network setup time, Intuitive setup, Real-time feedback on possible connections, Visual feedback on incomplete networks.
- Component Enhancements
- Enhancements to various components and additions of new components ensure intuitive setup and alignment to typical industry standards.
- Feature Enhancements
- Feature enhancements include genetic and BOBYQA algorithm based optimisers which provide robust methods to minimize or maximize component or system parameters. They use an iterative intelligent search algorithm that iteratively works to an optimised solution.
- Flownex can be used for the modelling of Non-Newtonian fluids such as slow/non-settling slurries and settling slurries. Flownex Slurry Simulation includes the following:
- Prediction of pressure losses in systems operating with non-settling slurries, especially Non-Newtonian mixtures where the viscosity becomes dependent on the shear rate.
- Prediction of pressure losses and stationary deposition velocity in systems operating with settling slurries in horizontal, inclined and vertical pipe segments.
- Prediction of centrifugal pump derating factors for Variable Speed Pump and Pump Elements operating with either Non-Newtonian fluids or Settling slurries.
- Excel reports now provide additional speed enhancement, by providing automation; Scans network and adds only components and properties used, Automatically generates structured input reports with a single click, Automatically generates structured result reports with a single click.
- Extended result layer allow quick and easy way to graphically display properties using a colour gradient.
